UPDATE: Scott County man who reportedly drowned in Pike County pond identified

FAIRMONT TOWNSHIP, Ill. — A 79-year-old male from Scott County reportedly drowned in a pond in Fairmont Township in Pike County on Saturday.

Gerald S. Stocker from Winchester was pronounced dead following a scuba diving accident while performing maintenance on a drain in a pond in rural Pike County. The investigation is still ongoing. 

Deputies from the Pike County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched at 12:37 p.m. to Fairmont Township for a reported drowning. After the man was removed from the pond, he was pronounced dead by Pike County Coroner David Greenwood.

Rescue teams from the East Pike Fire Department, Baylis Fire Department and the Griggsville Fire Department assisted at the scene.
