Memorial Medical Clinics launches mental health services

CARTHAGE, Ill. — Memorial Medical Clinics recently launched a mental health service line.

Shellie Wear and Tammy Teel now are providing mental health services with offices located at Memorial Medical Clinic Carthage – Hospital Campus, 1450 N. County Road 2050.

Wear, a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, received her certification from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville in 2021. Wear has had a long-standing practice at Memorial Medical Clinic Bowen, working as an advanced practiced registered nurse and family nurse practitioner.

“I love watching people get better and feel better,” Wear said. “I love to witness and facilitate self-discovery. I have a passion for teaching individuals how to better cope and thrive in their day-to-day lives and find this work to be incredibly rewarding.” 

Teel, a licensed clinical professional counselor, received her bachelor’s degree in psychology and law enforcement from Western Illinois University in 1996. She received her master’s degree in community counseling from Quincy University in 2010. 

“I love to enable people to find the answers they are searching for and assist with struggles they may be experiencing within themselves,” Teel said. “I get to celebrate every kind of victory with my patients during their treatment journey. I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to provide new perspectives in order to take care of my patients’ mental health.”

Wear and Teel treat a variety of mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, schizophrenia, eating disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and substance abuse issues. They also address needs and provide support to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBTQ) community.
