Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County

QUINCY — The Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County will host a grand opening/open house for the new lounge and coffee bar at its Visitors Center, 425 S. 12th, on National Coffee Day from 7-11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 29.

Area residents are welcome to drop by for a few minutes before work and enjoy complimentary coffee and pastries.

The lounge is designed in a style similar to the adjacent Gov. John Wood Mansion and features hand-laid oak reclaimed barn wood on the floors, a marble tile fireplace hearth, a vintage welcome counter and fireplace mantel and black granite countertops. A mural spanning the south wall of the room depicts Wood in battle. Custom bookcases made of walnut house a lending library where patrons can select books to read and then return. A new patio accessible from the lounge has been installed outside the building.

The renovation of the new area and its furnishings were funded by an anonymous donor.
