Hannibal Area String Orchestra to present its spring concert May 1

HANNIBAL, Mo. — The Hannibal Area String Orchestra will present its annual spring concert at 3 p.m. May 1, in the Roland Fine Arts Center, 2800 Palmyra Road. The orchestra will capture Mother Nature and move us to the great outdoors with 11 nature themed pieces.

The pieces to be offered by the orchestra are:

  • “Ice Mountain” by Australian composer Stephen Chin
  • “Golden Fields” a ballad by Alan Lee Silva
  • “Deep Sea Fandango” by Deborah Baker Monday
  • “Spring” from The Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi, arranged by John Caponegro
  • “On the Trail” from Grand Canyon Suite by Ferdy Grofe, arranged by Andrew H. Dabczynski
  • “A Christmas Story”
  • “Themes From The Moldau” by Bedrich Smetana, arranged by Robert S. Frost
  • “Over the Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz: music by Harold Arlen, lyrics by E.Y. Harburg, arranged by Bob Phillips
  • The Water Is Wide, arranged by Bob Krogstad
  • Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saens, Symphony No. 6 First Movement by Ludwig Van Beethoven, arranged by Robert D. McCashin

The organization is made up of three groups: the beginning and intermediate string orchestras, both directed by Katie Schisler, and the advanced string orchestra directed by John Ferguson. The string orchestra has approximately 45 members including piano, guitars and percussion on some pieces.
