The Quincy City Council heard the monthly tax sales report and local cash registers were ringing in May.

Sales tax revenues for May were $1,094,253 and Home Rule Sales Tax revenues were $969,379 for a total that just tops the $2 million mark.

That’s a higher total than the pre-pandemic numbers from May 2019, when the city brought in a combined $1.7 million in both taxes.

It was a relatively brief meeting Monday night, but the City Council also approved for the Quincy Transit Lines to apply for a $3.8 million Illinois Department of Transportation grant.

The Public Transportation Capital Assistance Grant would allow the city to move the bus service’s downtown transfer location one block west, to the 600 block of Jersey.

The grant provides for land acquisition and parking lot construction, which would enable the passengers to board the busses off of the street.
