Quincy Police arrest man following threats with a gun

Just after 4 a.m. Saturday, Quincy Police responded to a call at 2207 Spruce on the report of a disturbance in progress involving a firearm.

A female called 911 reporting that her boyfriend threatened her and put a gun to her chest and pushed her out of the house and that another male roommate was still inside the residence. Quincy Police responded to the scene and located the female victim who was taken to safety. Quincy Police set up a perimeter and the male roommate was safely removed from the residence.

The suspect, identified as Tyler J. Hopping, 32, refused to come out of the house.

The Quincy Police Emergency Response Team and Quincy Police Crisis Negotiation Team were called in to assist and communicated with the suspect. At about 6:45 a.m., Hopping surrendered to police without incident and a firearm was recovered at the scene.

Hopping was lodged in the Adams County Jail and faces the following charges: Armed Violence, Domestic Battery, Aggravated Assault, Possession of Firearm without FOID, Possession of Ammunition without FOID, Possession of Cannabis Plants (5 – 20 plants) and Resisting / Obstructing a Peace Officer. 

No injuries were reported. The Adams County Sheriff’s Department and the Adams County Ambulance Service also assisted at the scene.
