George R. Barry — Duker & Haugh

George R. Barry, age 91, of Liberty, died on Saturday, June 7, 2025 in Blessing Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born on February 22, 1934 in Quincy, Illinois the son of Andrew & Clara (Ohnemus) Barry. He married Marilyn Emma Jansen on September 28, 1957 in Quincy’s St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on February 22, 2024.

George was a lifelong farmer in the Liberty area. He greatly enjoyed farming and his animals. In addition to farming, he had also worked at the Quincy Airport, then was a truck driver for various companies in the area for many years. He was also the Liberty Township Road Commissioner for more than 20 years. George was a member of the Liberty Lions for more than 45 years. He was also a member of the McKee Creek Coon Hunters Association. George was a lifelong and active member of St. Brigid Catholic Church, and the East Union Community Club. For many years he and Marilyn were members of the Eagles Alps where they enjoyed attending dances.

George is survived by his children: Ronald (Rose) Barry; Robert (Laura Oakman) Barry; David (Kay) Barry; Joyce (Steve) Klingele all of Liberty; Jeanne (Dennis “Gus”) Dietrich of Quincy; Richard (Kristine) Barry also of Liberty; and Janet Barry of Payson, IL.

19 grandchildren: Matt (Amanda) Barry, Marc (Kendall Moore) Barry, Rachelle (Rob) Goodwin, Jessica (Kaleb) Purcell, Keith (Jennifer) Barry, Craig Barry, Angela (Ben) Thompson, Bradley Barry, Bryan (Shelby) Klingele, Drew (Stephanie) Klingele, Connor (Taylor Rich) Klingele, Amber (Nick) Wiemelt, Heather (Devin) Buss, Eric (Kelsey) Barry, Kari (Wade) Murfin, Olivia Barry, Nicholas Barry, Kyle (Sarah) Beckman and Nicole (Jordan) Cook.

He is also survived by thirty-two great-grandchildren, a sisters-in-law: Patricia Barry and Helen Jansen; brother-in-law Eugene (Betty) Jansen and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, George was also preceded in death by: his parents, a grandson Aaron Barry, a great-grandson; siblings: Virgil Barry along with his wife Frances, Tom Barry along with his wife Charlotte, William Barry along with his wife Iona, Paul Barry, Kenneth Barry along with his wife Imogene, Bernice Mowen along with her husband Robert, Vincent Barry and Carlene Barry; brothers-in-law: Edmund Jansen, Jr. along with his wife Sandy and Russell Jansen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Brigid Catholic Church, Liberty, IL. Interment will be in St. Brigid Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.in St. Brigid Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to St. Brigid Catholic Church or St. Brigid Cemetery.
