QPD arrests 9, issues 11 tickets in connection with street racing

The Quincy Police Department has received complaints about reckless driving and street racing in local parking lots, parks and on city streets. We recently learned of a planned “Street Takeover Event” scheduled for the evening hours of Saturday, June 7. In response to this planned event, and to deter future events, the Quincy Police Department partnered with the Illinois State Police and the Quincy Park District to enhance enforcement efforts focused on speeding, reckless driving and street racing.
Vehicles believed to be associated with the “Street Takeover Event” were seen congregating in parking lots around 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Officers assigned to the enforcement details immediately began addressing the issue. Enforcement efforts took place at several locations around the city until 8:30 p.m., when the group was observed leaving Quincy via the Bayview Bridge.
The enforcement efforts on June 7 led to 9 individuals arrested with 11 tickets issued for various violations including reckless driving, speeding, driving while license suspended and loud exhaust. The Quincy Police Department will continue to aggressively enforce unlawful activity that threatens public safety, damages public and private property and has a negative impact on our resident’s quality of life.
The Illinois State Police and the Quincy Park District were also involved in the operation.
