QFD responds to fire at Kroc Center

Update on the fire this afternoon at the Kroc Center: A mechanical issue in a rooftop unit that controls the humidity levels of the pool caused a small fire that the Quincy Fire Department got under control quickly. The Kroc Center will remain open the rest of the evening and normal hours tomorrow. However, the aquatics center is closed tonight and tomorrow.

QUINCY – A fire occurred at the Kroc Center, 405 Vermont late Wednesday afternoon.

Quincy Fire Department crews arrived to see smoke visible from the roof and a Quincy Police officer who was first on the scene said there were flames visible.

Crews contained the fire to an HVAC unit on the roof and ensured it didn’t spread.

All occupants were evacuated from the building.

Quincy Fire Chief Steve Salrin said next steps include monitoring the scene to prevent the fire from re-igniting.

A press release regarding the incident is expected to be issued later today.
