Mount Sterling Airport gets $1.5 million

MOUNT STERLING, ILL – The Robert F. Tracy Mount Sterling Municipal Airport is receiving a $1.5 million state grant for taxiway improvements.
The $1.35 million grant requires a $150,000 match from the city. It is part of the $45 billion Rebuild Illinois capital plan for infrastructure upgrades. About 100 airports around the state received $94 million, including Quincy Regional Airport.
Airport Manager Paul Walker discussed the grant Friday morning.
The grant calls for an extension of the taxiway that goes to the south and connects to the runway end. Following that improvement, planes will not longer have to taxi on the runway. Photo: Randy Phillips, Randy Industries.
