Quincy Service Club announces new officers, honor long-time members

QUINCY — The Quincy Service Club recently announced new officers for the organization. They are:
- President: Barry Cheyne
- President-elect-Linda Moore
- Vice-president-Mike McLaughlin
- Immediate past president- Carlos Fernandez
- Treasurer-Dennis Koch
- Secretary-Mike Smith
Board members:
- Bryden Cory and Todd Eyler (term expires after 2025-26)
- Art Awerkamp and Kent Anderson (term expires after 2026-27)
- Terry Austin and Blane Barnes (term expires after 2027-28)
Also recognized were lifetime award winners Barb Tripp, widow of John Tripp accepting for John; Jeff Dorsey; Skip Reuter; Dennis Koch; and Butch Hageman accepting for his father, Bill.
Lifetime membership is based our board approval and is awarded to those members past and present who embody the club’s commitment to Americanism, child abuse prevention, community service and youth activities. Those awarded provided countless hours of service to our city and its citizens.
Also announced was the winner of the John Tripp award. This distinguished service award is given to someone who has been a longtime, involved member. Meeting attendance record, fundraisers, road trips, chairing a committee and being a board member all are used in the award approval process.
John Johannes was announced as the John Tripp Award winner. Johannes has been a member of the club for 20+ years, was the first club president of QSC, has chaired Little Peoples sponsorship for two years and helped run Gus Macker basketball brackets with Kevin O’Donnell and Dave Poland for 10+ years.
Quincy Service Club is an organization dedicated to unity, community and giving. The membership strives to create volunteer opportunities and programs that benefit citizens and makes Quincy a great place to build families, relationships and a culture of caring and community action.
The Quincy Service Club Foundation, being guided by a rich legacy of over a century-long service and dedication, is a newly formed organization. The mission of the foundation is deeply ingrained in the principles of Americanism, community service, youth activities, scholarships and the prevention of child abuse.
We are stationed at the crossroads of diversity and integrity, executing a variety of projects that reflect our commitment and celebrate our community. From the extraordinary Field of Honor® event that annually hoists 1,000 U.S. flags, to the joyous organization of the Little People’s Golf Championships, we take pride in embracing both grandeur and simplicity.
At Quincy Service Club Foundation, we honor our first responders, acknowledge our unsung heroes and work tirelessly to uplift the lives of those who live in the shadows of society. We believe that everyone deserves a shot at success, and hence, we award scholarships to not only the most audacious but also to those who have valiantly overcome physical or mental barriers to graduate.
