Quincy Police Department

QUINCY — One man was airlifted to Springfield Tuesday after being hit on his moped by an SUV.

At about 4:00 pm. on Tuesday, the Quincy Police Department, along with the Quincy Fire Department and Adams County EMS, responded to a traffic crash at the intersection of 18th and Chestnut Street. The initial investigation determined that a Mercury Mountaineer, driven by Elizabeth Shepherd, 53 of Quincy, was traveling eastbound on Chestnut and failed to stop at the posted stop sign at the intersection of N.18th and Chestnut.

As a result, Shepherd’s vehicle collided with a moped that was stopped at the stop sign.

The male driver of the moped sustained serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to Blessing Hospital. He was later airlifted to a medical facility in Springfield for further treatment. Shepherd was placed under arrest, cited and released for Failure to Obey a Stop Sign and Expired Registration.

The incident remains under investigation by the Quincy Police Department.
