QUINCY – The Quincy Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 617 College at about 4:15 p.m. Saturday.

Engine Companies #2, #4, #6, and Incident Command were initially called and Engine #5 was requested immediately due to high temperatures and heat index. On arrival, crews observed heavy smoke and fire coming from windows on the first and second floor. There were also exposure concerns due to the proximity of the neighboring houses.

Crews were able to verify quickly that the property was vacant. An attack line was deployed and the fire on the first floor was quickly knocked down from the outside. Doors to the residence were forced open and crews made entry, extinguishing fire throughout the structure. A second attack line was deployed to the first floor and a third line was deployed but not opened.

Engine companies remained on scene until about 6:15 p.m. to extinguish hot spots and pick up equipment.

There was extensive fire and smoke damage to the structure and minor damage to a neighboring structure. There were no utilities to the building at the time of the fire. The fire is currently under investigation.

Thirteen QFD personnel responded to the scene and assistance was provided by the QFD Rehab Team, Adams County Ambulance, Quincy Police Department, and Ameren.
