Hotel with rooftop bar and restaurant slated for former Welcome Inn property

QUINCY — A new multi-story hotel with a rooftop bar and restaurant is in the works for the former Welcome Inn at 200 Maine, according to Quincy Planning Director Jason Parrott.
A notice of a public hearing in regard to securing a special permit for the project could be found in front of the property Thursday. The hearing is scheduled to take place at the next Quincy Plan Commission meeting on July 22 at 7 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.

The request for a special permit pertains to height requirements for the area; buildings can typically be no taller than 50 feet tall so as not to block views of the riverfront.
An estimated completion date for the project has not yet been determined, Parrott said.
“(The owners) are taking it one step at a time,” he said.
The 3.51-acre property was purchased last month by Quincy Hotel LLC for $500,000, exactly three months after a fire decimated the main lobby of the building on March 11.
Four adults and one juvenile were arrested March 13 in connection with the fire. Three of the adults were charged with arson.
The Welcome Inn has been vacant since July 28, 2021, when city officials displaced more than 250 people by closing the Welcome Inn after making the determination that “the structure (was) unsafe and its occupancy (was) prohibited.”
The Welcome Inn had 121 rooms when it first opened as a Holiday Inn in February 1964.
