City of Quincy issues boil order reminder and water conservation request

QUINCY – The City of Quincy is reminding residents that a boil order remains in effect for select areas following a water main break near the riverfront on Tuesday evening. While repairs were completed by 8:30 a.m. Wednesday and all systems are now operational, water pressure dropped below 20 psi, triggering safety protocols.
The boil order is currently in effect for the following areas:
• Lexington
• Stadium Drive
• Maine Street (from Stadium Drive to 48th Street)
Residents in these areas are advised to boil water before consuming it, including for drinking, cooking, and brushing teeth until further notice. The City will issue an official update once water quality testing confirms it is safe to lift the order.
“We’re still working to fully restore water levels,” said Public Works Director Jeffrey Conte. “In the meantime, we’re asking all residents on the east side to continue conserving water this evening by limiting non-essential use such as watering lawns or washing vehicles.”
Daily household tasks like showering, laundry, and brushing teeth are safe to continue.
Residents who do not currently have water service should contact the City Water Department at 217-228-4537. Those whose service was recently restored are urged to boil water as a precaution.
City officials appreciate the public’s continued cooperation and patience as crews work to stabilize the system and restore full water service across Quincy.
