Kenneth “Rodney” Wells — O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home

Kenneth “Rodney” Wells, 69, of Quincy, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.
Rodney was born February 16, 1956, in Quincy, IL to Kenneth L. Wells and Dorothy (Goodwin) Foglesong. He was married to Patricia “Pat” Wells on November 27, 1976, at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Quincy, IL. Their marriage was a testament to love and partnership until Pat’s passing just a month before Rodney’s. The couple shared nearly five decades of memories, laughter, and unwavering support for one another.
Rodney’s professional life was as diverse as it was distinguished. His first job was as a gas station attendant in Taylor, Missouri. It was there that he met his future wife, Pat, at the age of 16. He served with pride and integrity as a corrections officer for Missouri State Penitentiary in Jefferson City, MO. Rodney continued to serve as a professional security officer for Quincy University as well as Quincy Mall before his retirement.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Rodney was a man of many interests. His weekends were often spent browsing through auctions and flea markets, sometimes participating as a vendor. He shared his life with a beloved dog, a black lab/Rottweiler mix named Chopper, who was his loyal companion. Rodney’s love for the classic tunes of Hank Williams and Johnny Cash filled his home, while Westerns, MASH, and Police Academy were his go-to choices for television entertainment.
Above all, Rodney’s heart belonged to his family. He was a pillar of strength and love, always putting them first. His spontaneous drives were cherished adventures, exploring new locations with his children and, in later years, treating his grandchildren to milkshake escapades and his granddogs to pup cups. Rodney’s love for family gatherings, especially cookouts, was infectious, and bringing everyone together created special memories that his family will hold dear forever.
Survivors include his three children, Stacy Fischer (Eric), Jason Wells, and Derek Wells (Hilary), all of Quincy, IL; five grandchildren, Austin Fischer (Kameron), Abigail Lair (Andrew), Arianna Fischer, Noah Wells, and Carter Wells; two great grandchildren, Ivy Fischer and Sage Fischer; three brothers, David Wells (Doris), Larry Wells, and Gary Foglesong; one sister, Brenda Friedhoff (John); and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Rodney was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia “Pat” Wells; his mother and stepfather, Dorothy and Olin Foglesong; his father, Kenneth L. Wells; and one sister, Patricia “Patty” Pratt.
