Ghidara-Rosemarie

Rosemarie A. Ghidara, age 79, of Quincy, passed away to her heavenly reward on Friday, July 18, 2025 at 3:30 pm in Sunset Home after a lengthy battle with dementia.

Rosmarie was born on September 14, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois, a daughter of Jerry Fojtik and Lottie Koziol. Rosemarie grew up on the southwest side of Chicago, attending St. Bruno

Catholic School and Lourdes High School, graduating in 1963. She attended some college classes at William J. Bogan Junior College and even saw the Beatles in 1964 before getting married September 7, 1968 to Kenneth J. “Ken” Ghidara. He preceded her in death on June 13, 2016. They welcomed a daughter, Roberta Ann, in 1973. In later years, Rosemarie worked as a receptionist for several companies including St. Xavier University and Ketchum Directory advertising in Chicago. She and Ken moved to Quincy IL in 2014 to be near Roberta and her family.

Rosemarie enjoyed traveling with Ken in her retirement, as well as her friends and outings with the Quincy Newcomers Club. She attended St. Francis Solanus Church and even volunteered at the parish school library for a while. The highlight of her recent years was her genealogy trip to Poland in 2019 with Roberta – an amazing adventure they both enjoyed. Rosemarie was a sweet and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and a kind and loyal friend who was loved by many.

She was preceded in death by her parents, aunts Helen and Harriet Koziol of Chicago, beloved uncle Joseph Koziol of Chicago, and her husband Ken.

Survivors include her daughter, Roberta (David) Hirstius of Fowler, IL; a grandson, Evan Joseph Hirstius of Fowler, IL; sister-in-law Judy Garrison and family of Joliet, IL.
