Mame Logo Square - QCT

QUINCY — Auditions for “Mame” will be held Feb. 7-8 at the Quincy Community Theatre, and performances are April 1-3 and April 7-10.

Actors, singers, and dancers are needed to create an eclectic cast of characters. Roles for men and women ages 18 and older, as well as two young boys, include Auntie Mame, a flamboyant and glamorous bohemian socialite; Patrick Dennis, Mame’s orphaned nephew; Agnes Gooch, Patrick’s mousy, frumpy nanny who undergoes a major transformation; Vera Charles, a theatrical star and Mame’s boozy best friend; Beauregard Burnside, a kindly, wealthy southern gentleman who marries Mame; and an ensemble of eccentric and dynamic men and women.

“Mame is one of the funniest musicals ever written and contains one of the most tuneful scores ever written,” QCT Artistic Director Brandon Thomsen saids. “Every single character has a moment to shine, and with its themes of acceptance and to live life to its fullest, it feels like the perfect show for our community and our 2022 season of sheer theatrical joy!”

When young Patrick is plucked from his rural upbringing in Iowa to live with his wildly enthusiastic New York socialite Auntie Mame, he swiftly learns “life is a banquet, and most poor suckers are starving to death!” Mame’s captivating optimism and zest for life endear her to (almost) everyone she crosses paths with. “Mame” is packed with musical theatre classics, such as “It’s Today” and “We Need a Little Christmas.”

Auditions are structured so both the experienced performer and the first-timers can feel successful. Those who wish to participate should schedule an individual audition appointment for either Feb. 7 or Feb. 8 and prepare 60 seconds of a song. A piano accompanist will be provided. Those auditioning also will be asked to read from the script, which is available through the QCT website. To access the script, call QCT for the password.

“Mame” is under the direction of Thomsen.

Online registration, detailed audition requirements, audition tips and character descriptions will be available at www.1qct.org/on-stage/auditions. Audition appointments may be made by contacting the QCT Box Office at 217-222-3209.
