QUINCY — A Quincy teen is lodged in the Adams County Jail after he attempted to flee from a deputy with the Adams County Sheriff’s Department Wednesday night.

The deputy was northbound on Ill. 57, north of Eighth Street, at approximately 5:47 p.m. when a 2005 Ford Explorer came up behind the squad car at a high rate of speed.  The deputy pulled  to the shoulder and allowed the vehicle to pass.

A traffic stop was attempted at Gardner Expressway and R.J. Peters Drive, but the vehicle fled from the deputy at a high rate of speed. The driver of the vehicle, Dominic T. Fletcher, 18, of Quincy, was located running at Third and Hampshire a short time later by a second deputy. Fletcher was taken into custody without incident.

The vehicle Fletcher was driving was discovered in the parking lot for the Atrium at Third, 102 S. Third. The vehicle had failed to make a curve, left the road, hit a curb, went airborne and struck four parked vehicles.

Fletcher was transported by deputies to Blessing Hospital, where he was treated and released. He was arrested for driving under the influence, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, fleeing and eluding, no valid drivers license, operations of uninsured motor vehicle, following too close, consumption of alcohol by a minor and for a warrant for failure to appear.

Fletcher was subsequently lodged in the Adams County Jail.  Two of the parked vehicles and the suspect vehicle sustained major damage.
