Daily Dirt: ‘It’s the greatest song ever created’

Hopefully today’s first item rekindles some good memories for most of you readers  … welcome to Vol. 197 of the Daily Dirt.

1. It’s hard to disagree with any of the following picks, even if there are no Rod Stewart songs in the mix and arguably an overabundance of Beatles tunes. The bottom line is they are all classics. Newarena.com writer Joe Giusto put together a list of what he believes are the top 25 songs of all-time. Let’s count down his top 10:

• 10. “Hey Jude” (1968), Beatles: Personally, it’s one of my least favorite Beatles songs. It. Just. Never. Ends.
• 9. “Imagine” (1971), John Lennon: My favorite offering from Lennon as a solo artist.
• 8. “I Walk The Line” (1956): I have loved this song for as long as I can remember. Too bad Johnny Cash did not come along 10 to 20 years later when he would have received far more media exposure.
• 7. “Be My Baby” (1963), Ronettes: Fronted by the amazing Ronnie Spector, who recently died, the Ronettes churned out a series of hits in the early and mid-1960s that remain classics today.
• 6. “In My Life” (1965), Beatles: Seeing this song included both surprises and delights me.
• 5. “Satisfaction” (1965), Rolling Stones.
• 4. “Let It Be” (1968), Beatles: I have the same feelings about this Beatles song as I do “Hey Jude.”
• 3. “Like A Rolling Stone” (1965), Bob Dylan: I’ve always been a big fan of early Dylan efforts, especially this one. Great, great lyrics.
• 2. “Johnny B. Goode” (1958), Chuck Berry: I know this the St. Louis native’s No. 1 classic, but I would have subbed “Memphis, Tennessee” (1959).
• 1. “Bohemian Rhapsody” (1975), Queen: A worthy selection. “There’s really not much to say about this triumph of a track,” writes Giustio about the Queen song. “We’ve got the vocals of an all-time legend (Freddie Mercury) paired with a highly complex piece of music. Elements of hard rock, soft rock, pop and opera are exquisitely woven together to form a track that people know from Manilla to Mogadishu.”It’s the greatest song ever created.”

2. A few items for your entertainment on this Saturday in late February, thanks to Facebook:

• “When your lingerie says Victoria’s Secret and your body says McDonald’s.”
• “Farts are just the ghosts of things we ate.”

• “Before Facebook, I just assumed we all had a grasp of common sense.”

3. Here’s an updated list of American’s favorite toppings for burgers, according to bestlifeonline.com:

• 1. Cheese: 67 percent. For me, that slice would preferably be American or cheddar.
• 2. Lettuce: 62 percent. It must, however, be crisp.
• 3-tie. Ketchup: 58 percent. I thought this percentage would have been higher.
• 3-tie. Tomatoes: 58 percent. The tomato should be thinly sliced, so you can almost see through it.
• 5. Onions: 53 percent. The same goes for a slice of onion.

Steve will occasionally cover a burger in cheese, adding some lettuce and/or tomatoes or onion. But never ketchup. Never. Never. No mustard either.

It is rumored that Steve’s favorite topping on a hamburger is ravioli salsa rosa from Tiramisu.
