Public protest of ruling in Clinton criminal sexual assault case set for 1 p.m. Saturday in Washington Park
A public protest of Judge Robert Adrian’s reversal of a ruling in a criminal sexual assault case will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Washington Park.
Expected to speak at the protest are Cameron Barnes, national youth director of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition; Kathy Entrup, president of the board of directors with QUANADA (Quincy Area Network Against Domestic Abuse); Megan Duesterhaus, executive director of QUANADA); and Scott Vaughan, the father of Cameron Vaughan, who claimed she was assaulted by 18-year-old Drew Clinton after a graduation party last summer.
After finding Clinton guilty of one count of criminal sexual assault during a bench trial on Oct. 15, Adrian changed his mind at Clinton’s sentencing hearing on Jan. 3 and declared him not guilty. The case since has received attention throughout the nation and the world.
Letters to Adrian and Illinois Supreme Court requesting Adrian’s removal from the judiciary will be collected at the event.
More than 100,000 people have signed an online petition at change.org requesting censure, suspension and/or removal of Adrian from his position in the Eighth Circuit Court in Illinois.
