QU art professor has several pieces selected for exhibitions throughout nation

QUINCY — Several works of Robert Lee Mejer, distinguished professor of art at Quincy University, have been selected for national exhibitions.

St. Louis artist Marilynne Bradley, a faculty member at Webster University and the University of Missouri-Columbia, selected Mejer’s watercolor “Take PC #46” for the Steven Viorel Merit Award in the Hannibal Art Club’s 57th annual 2021 Originale professional division. The exhibition was at the Hannibal Arts Council Gallery, Sept. 24 through Oct. 30.

Mejer was selected to serve as the awards juror for the International Society of Experimental Artists member online exhibition “Making Our Mark.” Award-winning artists and the exhibit will be posted on the ISEA website on Tuesday.

Juror Dean Mitchell selected Majer’s watercolor “Variant, Equilibrium” for inclusion in the 13th biennial National Art Exhibition at the Visual Arts Center in Punta Gorda, Fla., from Feb. 18 to April 16, with an Awards Reception held on Feb. 24.

Despina Tunberg, curator of the World Wide Art Promotion, Inc., in Santa Barbara, Calif., recently selected Mejer’s watercolor “Variant: The Dance Around” to appear in the online art magazine “World Wide Art.” The link is sent to 30,000 gallery owners, 8,500 art dealers, 45,000 art collectors, 20,000 art organizations and is promoted on social media.

Juror Christina Lucas, exhibition curator at the Pearce Museum of Corsicana, recently selected Mejer’s watercolor collage “Pinball” for inclusion into the Water Media National Juried Exhibition at the Dallas Metro Arts Contemporary. International artist John Salminen selected Mejer’s watercolor “Take PC #29” for inclusion in the Pittsburgh Watercolor Society’s 75th Aqueous International Open. The Indianapolis Art Center selected Mejer’s prints “Shuffle Dance” and “Variant 1 – PC #26″ for exhibition in the 2021 Artwork Manifest New Editions: A Printmaking Exhibition, in Indianapolis.

William Butler, executive director of the Contemporary Art Center of Peoria, invited Mejer to have a one-person exhibition at the center from June 24-August 12, with a reception on July 16.

Mejer has been a distinguished professor of art, Gray Gallery Curator and art program coordinator at Quincy University since 1968. He is an artist, painter, printmaker, juror and visiting artist.
