HANNIBAL, Mo. — Just after 2:00 a.m. Wednesday, the Hannibal Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 201 Dowling.

The fire has been determined as accidental. A turkey fryer was being used as a heating source.

HFD responded with 10 firefighters and called in an additional five.  Firefighters made a defensive attack upon arrival. The house was being used by homeless individuals. The occupants escaped without injuries and there were no injuries to firefighters. Firefighters were on scene for approximately three hours.

HFD would like to remind everyone to have a fire safety plan in place and to be careful with alternative heating sources. Turkey fryers, stoves, and other cooking appliances should not be used as a heat source.

HFD was assisted on scene by Hannibal Police, Marion County Ambulance, HBPW, Building Inspector office and Missouri State Fire Marshal’s office.
