QUINCY — The Adams County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 15-year-old male juvenile in connection with the death of an elderly man.

Just after 7 a.m. Thursday, a deputy with the Adams County Sheriff’s Department observed what was described as “suspicious circumstances” at a residence in the Gross Gables subdivision on the north side of Quincy.

The deputy and other officers made entry into the residence to check on the homeowner. Upon entry, the deputies discovered the body of the homeowner.

The sheriff’s office immediately began investigating the death as a homicide.

Deputies arrested the teen in the Third and Chestnut area just before noon.

The sheriff’s office received assistance from the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit and the Quincy Police Department.

The sheriff’s department was asking for help on social media this morning in locating a missing person, but it later took down those posts.

The entrance to the Gross Gables subdivision from Weiss Lane was blocked by four vehicles, two trucks and two Adams County Sheriff’s Department vehicles, for several hours Thursday morning.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The name of the street from which the entrance to Gross Gables was blocked was incorrect in an earlier version. MRN apologizes for the error.
