Sonic Drive-In at 15th and Broadway just as it opened for the first time at noon Monday J. Robert Gough

QUINCY — At noon today, the first customers were flying through the drive-through as Sonic Drive-In returned to Quincy after more than a decade absence.

The 15th and Broadway location has hired 50 employees and continues to add staff. It will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

As cars passing on Broadway noticed the opening. They were making U-turns and whipping into the parking lot.

The franchisee broke ground last spring after receiving Quincy City Council zoning approval for the restaurant.

At one time around the year 2000, Quincy had three Sonic locations: Sixth and Broadway, North 24th Street and 36th and Maine. All eventually closed for various reasons. The one at Sixth and Broadway caught fire at one point.
