Gems allow 12 hits, 12 walks in suffering fourth straight defeat

QUINCY — Quincy Gems pitchers allowed 12 hits and 12 walks, and Gems hitters had just four hits in a 13-3 loss to the Springfield Sliders in a Prospect League baseball game on Tuesday night at QU Stadium.

The Gems have lost four straight since winning the season opener.

Springfield scored three times in the first. The the Gems responded with two runs in the bottom half and one more run in the second.  Alec Patino scored on a passed ball and Matt Schark had a run-scoring single in the first. Patino hit a sacrifice fly in the second.

The Sliders regained the lead with a run against losing pitcher Jake Stipp in the third, then added two more runs in the fifth. Springfield put the game away with seven runs over the final three innings.

Gino D’Alessio, making his Gems debut, had two of Quincy’s four hits.
