Wiley trial on track for July
The much-delayed trial of a Quincy man involving the death of an infant girl is now set for July.
Travis Wiley, 34, faces three counts of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated battery in the Jan. 22, 2018, death of an infant girl. He is accused of shaking the infant on Jan. 20, 2018, and she died two days later at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis. Wiley was arrested June 20, 2018 and continues to be held in the Adams County Jail on $5 million bond.
Judge Michael Atterberry began presiding over the case in February after Judge Robert Adrian was removed from this case and all felony criminal cases by Chief Circuit Judge Frank McCartney. This was following Adrian’s controversial ruling regarding criminal sexual assault case in January and Adrian’s in-court comments to Assistant State’s Attorney Josh Jones regarding social media comments about the case.
Jones said he was ready for trial while Wiley’s attorney, Ryan Parker, said he might need to file one additional motion before trial. Atterberry asked if Parker could have the motion ready by April 8 and Jones have his response back by April 29.
Atterberry then set a status hearing date for May 5 and the trial is scheduled to begin July 18, barring any other complications.
Both attorneys said their expert witness would be available at some point during the week of July 18.
