Display area with information for veterans to be unveiled Monday at Quincy Town Center

QUINCY — A press conference is set for 2:30 p.m. Monday in the “Veterans Hallway” corridor of the Quincy Town Center, 3347 Quincy Mall to show off a new display area.

The Quincy Town Center is working with Together With Tri-State Veterans, a community-based suicide prevention program for rural veterans, to create a display with brochures, pamphlets and business cards that are designed by veterans for veterans and their families. 

A core group of community members, service organizations and others have been meeting for the past year to develop a plan to mitigate the challenges of reaching out to this at-risk group of veterans. 

“At times, veterans may not know where to find veteran-specific information, or they may feel uneasy or unwilling to walk into a medical facility or clinic to ask for help,” said Richard Elsenpeter, coordinator/facilitator with Together With Tri-State Veterans, in a press release. “We feel that this will create a non-threatening, easy and accessible way for a veteran, their family and/or the general public to easily pick up this information.”

The TWTSV is funded by the Veterans Administration Office of Rural Health, supported by the Office of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, and carried out through a collaboration between the Rocky Mountain Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Center for Suicide Prevention, the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education Behavioral Health Program (WHICHE BHP), local Veterans and community stakeholders.
