Celebrate Quincy’s German roots June 3-4 in South Park

QUINCY — Germanfest, the Quincy Sister City Commission’s annual event, will return this year to Quincy June 3-4. It is a free family event celebrates Quincy’s German roots with music, food, drinks and more in Quincy’s South Park.

Germanfest will feature two German bands and the Wir Tanzen-German folk dance group. The Waterloo German Band will perform from 5-11 p.m. Friday and 3-7 p.m. Saturday. The Heidelberg Dutchmen Band will perform from 7-11 p.m. Saturday.

Authentic German food, beer and fair food will be available for purchase from Hy-Vee Catering and Chuck’s Grilling.  Underbrinks will prepare desserts. Melton’s Kettlekorn will have hot pretzels, funnel cakes and lemon shakeups. Tri-State Snobiz will serve shaved ice treats.  

GermanFest offers a special selection of German beer. A special German-styled brew from Quincy Brewing Company will be added to this year’s selection. The official keg tapping will take place at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.  “Kinderplatz,” activities for children, will be available from 3-7 p.m. Saturday. These activities include face painting and fair-styled games and are free to public. The Sister City Commission will sell traditional German Lebkuchen Hearts at its booth.  

Additional event parking will be available at the Hy-Vee grocery store at 14th and Harrison.
