QUINCY — Quincy Police have arrested a juvenile male in connection with starting the fire at a vacant building Wednesday evening in Quincy’s Calftown neighborhood.

Police say based on evidence gathered during interviews and found at the scene of the fire at 649 State, the preliminary investigation concluded the fire was incendiary in nature.

The juveline lived near the building and was considered a person of interest. He was interviewed at the Quincy Police Department on Thursday and released to the custody of his mother.

The reports will be reviewed by the Adams County State’s Attorney’s office to determine formal charges.

The call came in at 5:48 p.m. Wednesday and quickly went to a second alarm. Grey smoke was visible across the Calftown skyline within minutes. A third crew was called in at 6:25 p.m., which meant all of the reserve trucks responded.

Sixteen firefighters were on the scene and attended to the fire throughout the night.
