QUINCY — State Street Theater will have two live shows this weekend.

The theater has partnered with Square Music Company to provide a free all-ages live music experience Friday, July 1. Doors will open at 6 p.m., and music will begin at 7 p.m. with performances by Pete Magliocco and Ted Holt, along with additional guest performances. The show is part of the theater’s Summer Fridays series.

The theater also will offer a hip hop showcase on Saturday, July 2, with out-of-town acts such as Prince-Ish from Cleveland and Bonus from New York joining a who’s-who of local rap talent like GP GotIt, Esby573, Young Rook and Blockboy Filp. Cost to attend the showcase is $10 and is open to all ages.

In a press release, State Street Theater manager Brian Stitt said, “We are excited to be in a position to bring exciting national acts to our stage while also showcasing Quincy’s extensive local talent. Quincy is already a hive of musical activity, and we are thrilled to have an opportunity to add to that.”

“We look forward to showing off some of the talent that walks through our shop on a regular basis,” said Magliocco, owner of Square Music Company. “Working with the State Street Theater allows us to grow and develop our neighborhood to enhance the musical community.  We’re excited to be able to participate in back-to-back shows with this caliber of talent.”

Opened in 1938, the State Street Theater was originally built as a state-of-the art movie house but has been converted into an elegant and versatile events venue for concerts, films, weddings or other private events. The Theater’s Summer Fridays series offers a variety of live music experiences.

Square Music Company, Quincy’s only full service music store, offers music instruction, music therapy, string instrument setup, repair and restoration, music lifestyle products and electronics repair. Its two Illinois locations are at 725 Hampshire in Quincy and 122 N. Side Square in Macomb.
