Dot Foods continues ongoing commitment to Mount Sterling YMCA with donation
MOUNT STERLING, Ill. — Dot Foods, North America’s largest food industry redistributor, recently made a $4,000 donation to the Mount Sterling Community Center YMCA. Dot donates to the local YMCA annually to support its programs and facilities. The YMCA donation was part of a big first quarter of giving for the company.
The Mount Sterling YMCA was founded in 2004 with the backing of Dot founders Robert and Dorothy Tracy, Dot employees and the Tracy Family Foundation. To honor Dorothy, the YMCA named its community garden after her last year.
Dot’s employees continue to follow in their founders’ footsteps through volunteering at the YMCA through Teaming with Local Charities, Dot’s employee volunteer program. Dot also encourages employees to be YMCA members by subsidizing their membership fees and contributing to entry fees for leagues and classes.
The YMCA offers a wide variety of programs and services. More than 1,000 children have participated in their youth programs as of spring 2022. They also donate food, provide programs for cancer survivors, host community clean-up projects and organize several other initiatives.
In a press release, Jeff Summers, executive director of the Mount Sterling Community Center YMCA said, “Because of the financial support from Dot and other financial donors, the Y has made a huge impact in Brown County and beyond. Together, Dot and the YMCA will continue to strengthen the foundation of our local community through promoting youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.”
Along with its annual donation to the YMCA, Dot Foods Mount Sterling has made more than $83,000 worth of contributions to local organizations this year, including:
- More than $28,000 to area food pantries and programs
- More than $19,000 for elementary school lockers in Brown County Community Unit School District No. 1
- More than $12,000 in Dorothy’s Market gift certificates awarded to 118 groups
- $10,000 to the White Hall Park Board for park improvements

In partnership with the Global Empowerment Mission (GEM), Dot recently sent a container of high-demand food to Ukrainian refugees thanks to employee donations matched by the company.
