QUINCY — The annual Jackson-Lincoln Swimming Complex Ben Bumbry Memorial Banquet will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, in the Quincy University Hall of Fame Room.

The banquet is held in honor and remembrance of Bumbry and to celebrate the community, individuals and businesses who support the pool. This year’s banquet will commemorate the pool’s 25th anniversary.  The evening will feature music by Steve Buckman.

Quincy Medical Group was selected as the 2022 “Friend of the Pool.” QMG provided financial support for a video surveillance system for the complex as well as new cash registers for the concession stand and one year of internet service.  The Jackson-Lincoln Swimming Complex board of directors also will recognize several individuals with the Volunteer of the Year and Outstanding Service awards.  Michael Dade, board president, will deliver a “State of the Pool” address, noting the accomplishments and highlights of the 2022 season and what is anticipated for the coming years.

The Jackson-Lincoln Swimming Complex officially opened on Aug. 2, 1997, after the late Bill Black, an ardent Quincy boater, observed disadvantaged children swimming in the Mississippi River. His vision and generosity resulted in the creation of the complex that consists of a large swimming pool with a diving well, a wading pool for young children, shower and concession facilities and a filter house. The complex is operated solely by community donations and grants.
