QUINCY, Ill. — A 79-year-old Camp Point man facing four felony sexual abuse charges pled not guilty Tuesday morning during his arraignment in Adams County Circuit Court.

Roy Sutton appeared with public defender Christopher Pratt before Judge Amy Lannerd. His case was placed on the Sept. 12 jury docket. Sutton’s next appearance in court is scheduled for Aug. 9.

Sutton was arrested July 6 after a two-month long child sexual exploitation investigation conducted by investigators with the Adams County Sheriff’s Department. He was indicted July 14 by an Adams County grand jury.

The grand jury determined Sutton contacted the sex organ of a child under the age of 13 with his hand and with his mouth for the purpose of sexual gratification between Nov. 20, 2018 and July 6. The grand jury also determined Sutton offered the same child money to allow other people to touch his penis and touch his buttocks.

Sutton faces two charges of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a Class X felony punishable for between six and 60 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. He also faces two charges of indecent solicitation of a child, a Class 1 felony punishable for between four and 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

The grand jury also determined Sutton said he would “kill and take deputies out” with his bare hands while Kelsey Miller, a deputy with the Adams County Sheriff’s Department, was at Sutton’s home on the day he was arrested. Sutton is charged with threatening a public official, a Class 3 felony punishable for between two and five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
