Farm lease programs for landowners, renters offered Aug. 24 around Missouri

University-of-Missouri-Extension

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Landowners and renters can learn about farm leases from University of Missouri Extension specialists from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, at seven locations across the state.

Participants can also attend via Zoom, says Joe Koenen, MU Extension county engagement specialist in agriculture and natural resources and longtime presenter on farm leases.

“Open communication is the key,” Koenen said in a press release. “Communication helps landlords and tenants find a middle ground for leases and helps both parties understand their responsibilities and rights.” This is especially important now, he says. “With fertilizer and chemical prices as high as they are, it is critical that landlords and tenants attend so they know current rental trends.”

In addition to Koenen, presenters include MU Extension specialists Darla Campbell, Tracie Moore, Mary Sobba, Randa Doty, Rachel Hopkins and Jason Morris.

Topics include current rental rates and trends, items to include in a lease, terminating a lease, recreational leases, and crop and livestock share arrangements.

Locations offering online and in-person sessions:

  • Milan. Milan Community Center, 203 N. Market.
  • Monticello. MU Extension Center in Lewis County, 104 E. Jefferson.
