QUINCY — A case against a Quincy man charged with two felonies in connection with a June 11 incident has been set for a plea on Aug. 31.

Lenard M. Miller, 41, did not appear with attorney Drew Schnack on Wednesday morning in Adams County Circuit Court. However, Schnack told Judge Roger Thomson he recently received an offer of probation as part of a fully negotiated plea from the Adams County State’s Attorney’s office and that Miller would accept it.

Miller was indicted July 14 by an Adams County grand jury, which determined Miller made physical contact of an insulting or provoking nature with Ian Jones, a deputy with the Adams County Sheriff’s Department. Miller allegedly pushed Jones to the front doorway of his residence and attempted to close the door on him.

The grand jury also determined Miller caused bodily harm to Angela Brink by allegedly striking her with a deadly weapon, his 2020 Jeep. Brink was a babysitter for Miller.

Miller originally had been charged with:

  • Aggravated battery to a peace officer, a Class 2 felony punishable for between three and seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
  • Aggravated battery with use of a deadly weapon, a Class 3 felony punishable for between two and five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
  • Reckless driving, a Class A misdemeanor.

Schnack said Miller would plead guilty to reckless driving as well as to resisting arrest, also a Class A misdemeanor. The other charges would be dropped.
