Grand jury indicts Quincy man on multiple counts as sex offender; bond set at $500,000
QUINCY — An Adams County grand jury indicted a Quincy man Thursday on multiple counts as a sex offender.
The Quincy Police Department began an investigation in September after receiving information about possible illegal contact between Aaron Washington, a 45-year-old registered sex offender, and a 13-year-old Quincy female. Investigators learned Washington had multiple social media sites, vehicles and other items he had failed to report on his sex offender registration as required by law. Investigators also learned Washington was living at an address on North 12th Street within 500 feet of Iles Elementary, 3111 N. 12th.
Washington was interviewed Sept. 12 at the Quincy Police Department and was lodged on that date on counts of failure to register as a sex offender, a sex offender residing within 500 feet of a school, unlawful communication with a minor and other charges. He was initially lodged in the Adams County Jail, and his bond was set at $50,000.
The investigation continued. Several minor children were interviewed at the Child Advocacy Center, and search warrants were executed on Washington’s electronic devices and social media.
The grand jury indicted Washington on the original charges, as well as new counts of criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse. His bond was increased to $500,000. Washington remains in the Adams County Jail. The investigation remains ongoing. Additional charges are possible.
Washington has prior convictions for aggravated criminal sexual abuse involving a victim less than 13 years of age before 2006, a violation for a sex offender registration in 2012 and a home invasion/sex offense in 2014.
