Quincy Police says Sunday night shooting incident at 33rd and Broadway wasn’t random

QUINCY — Investigators with the Quincy Police Department believe the report of shots being fired from a car in a traffic Sunday night at 33rd and Broadway was not a random shooting.

Deputy Chief Michael Tyler said in a Friday afternoon press release that the investigation of the incident, which happened at approximately 7:25 p.m., started with the night-time patrol shift and was later picked up by the investigation unit. 

Preliminary information suggests an aggressive driving/road rage type incident between the suspect’s and victim’s vehicles happened on Broadway before to the shooting. The suspect’s vehicle allegedly pulled up next to the victim’s vehicle and one round was fired, striking the vehicle near its gas tank. No injuries were reported. Fuel leaked from the victim’s vehicle, which was towed from the scene.

The westbound lanes of Broadway were closed Sunday evening. 

The victim, a male, said the other vehicle with the shooter fled. 

“Detectives have been working to obtain and review video surveillance from a number of locations to identify the suspect’s vehicle,” Tyler wrote in his release. “Based on our investigation so far, we do not believe this was a random shooting.”
