Homan makes court appearance, more discovery being exchanged
QUINCY – Steven Homan made a court appearance Tuesday morning and his attorney asked for more time for discovery.
Michael Mettes, an associate with the St. Louis firm of Rosenblum, Schwartz & Fry, appeared on behalf of Scott Rosenblum, who Homan retained as counsel. Mettes said multiple DVDs must be exchanged regarding the case between the defense and prosecution.
Homan, who wore a grey pinstriped suit with matching gold tie and pocket square, did not comment before, during or after the hearing.
Judge Amy Lannard set another status hearing for August 24 at 8:45 am.
Homan, owner of the Barn nightclub at 711 S. Front, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of aggravated battery. He was charged April 14 after a Quincy Police Department investigation of an incident at the nightclub on April 4. Jazzpher Evans, a 19-year-old former Quincy University student from Joliet, alleges she was attacked by Homan.
A charging document filed in Adams County Circuit Court alleges Homan “knowingly made physical contact of an insulting or provoking nature” with Evans, and that Homan placed his arm around Evans’ neck and “drug her for 20 seconds.”
Homan turned himself into police on April 15. His bail was set at $25,000. He was released after posting $2,500.
Homan relinquished the license for the nightclub the day before the Liquor Control Commission was set to meet.
Evans told a Chicago television station she believes Homan attacked her because she is Black. She has left the Quincy University basketball program.
