LaHood announces $8 million grant for Quincy Regional Airport

QUINCY REGIONAL AIRPORT

Quincy, IL – Congressman Darin LaHood (IL-18) announced today that the Quincy Regional-Baldwin Field Airport received an $8,000,000 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Improvement Program (AIP). The grant will be used to help reconstruct the airport’s runway and improve its safety.

“The Quincy Airport is a vital part of the transportation system and supply chain of west-central Illinois,” said Rep. LaHood. “Improving the runway will allow the airport to focus on other aspects of their facility and expand their services. In Congress, I will continue to work to support local infrastructure projects that add jobs and stimulate our economy in Illinois.”

“The City of Quincy and Quincy Regional Airport continue to marvel at the support of our friends in Congress. Their efforts in D.C. bring funds back into our community and region. These funds support critical infrastructure, create jobs, and induce much-needed economic impacts far beyond the airport for our community and region,” said Sandy Shore, Airport Director at Quincy Regional Airport.

The funding is part of FY 21 Regular AIP grants and will help improve the runways and ensure the airport is compliant with the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) safety guidelines. It goes toward $35 million in runway safety improvements already underway at Quincy Regional Airport.

The improvements include reconstructing and rehabilitating QRA’s 7,100 foot long, 150 foot wide primary runway, roving the airport’s third runway surface and its parallel taxiway and realigning taxiway Bravo.

Shorr said these improvements will bring the primary runway into federal line-of-sight standards, address aging pavement conditions and correct potentially dangerous non-standard airfield geometry.
