DAILY DIRT: Breathe easy, ‘Yellowstone’ fans … there are more episodes to come

Daily Dirt for Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2022

Whew! Some good news for “Yellowstone” fans … Welcome to today’s three thoughts that make up Vol. 475 of The Daily Dirt.

1. Relax, “Yellowstone” fans.

There will be more episodes this season than many thought, including myself.

Last week in this space I wrote about how upset I was that season five of the mega-hit on the Paramount Network would be ending soon after seven episodes (eight if you count the premier as two, which it actually was). That same information was reported by numerous other media sites.

But wait! It turns out Paramount has actually broken up what will be a 14-episode season into two halves. The second half will air sometime in 2023 (early 2023, I hope), but no definitive dates have been released.

The final episode of the first half of the “Yellowstone” schedule airs Dec. 18, and then we wait.

2. Here’s the best from “Found on Facebooks” in recent days:

  • “Before you start wrapping those gifts, do not sit down on the floor without a plan on how to get up.”
  • “Auto correct has become my worst enema.”
  • “Tips on how to fall asleep in a living room chair: 1. Be old. 2. Sit in a chair.”
  • “I don’t always go the extra mile, but when I do it’s because I missed my exit.”
  • “It’s weird being the same age as old people.”

3. For those basketball fans familiar with the exploits of Grinnell College over the years, this probably isn’t that surprising, but it’s still pretty amazing.

The small Division III school in central Iowa established another zany college basketball record last week. The Pioneers attempted an NCAA men’s basketball record 111 3-pointers in their 124-67 win over Emmaus Bible College.

While making 40 3-pointers in a game is impressive, it was just shy of Grinnell’s record 42 in one game, which it hit against Emmaus in 2018.

Another note of interest about Grinnell is that former player Jack Taylor set an NCAA record in 2012 when he scored 138 points in a single game. He also put up 109 in a game in 2013.

Steve Thought O’ The Day — The No. 1 at song at Christmas the first year I became a music fan was “I’m A Believer” by the Monkees in 1966. For those who have been keeping track, there’s only one original member of the Monkees remaining — Mickey Dolenz. We have lost Davy Jones, Peter Tork and Mike Nesmith.

Steve Eighinger writes daily for Muddy River News. He had Believer Fever in 1966.
