Adams County Beef Queen, Ambassador to be chosen at Adams County Beef Producers’ annual meeting

QUINCY — The Adams County Beef Producers and Beef Auxiliary will hold their 47th annual meeting and banquet beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at St. Brigid’s Hall in Liberty.

The public is invited to attend. Reservations should be made by Friday, Jan. 20, by contacting Grant Huber at 217-257-7170, Adam Mowen at 217-430-4352 or Tyler Shaffer at 217-653-1621. The cost for the banquet is $13 per person. Children under 7 are free.

This year’s meeting will include the selection of the 2023 Adams County Beef Queen and Ambassador. The Queen and Ambassador will each receive a $1,500 scholarship to the college of their choice. Competing for the title of Adams County Beef Queen are Elizabeth Perry and Andrea Schaffnit. Beau Shaffer is the lone candidate for ambassador.

Schaffnit, 17, is a daughter of Kevin and Nicole Schaffnit. She is involved in Unity High School’s Student Council and Future Business Leaders of America. She is the secretary of Unity’s FFA chapter and vice-president of the UHS Class of 2024. She enjoys playing volleyball and softball. Outside of school, Schaffnit is president of the Ursa Willing Workers 4-H Club and vice-president of the Adams County 4-H Federation. Along with taking care of her cattle, she enjoys working as a certified nurse’s assistant at Blessing Hospital, babysitting and spending time with friends and family. Her future plans are to become a physician’s assistant to an endocrinologist.

Perry, 16, is a daughter of Tod Perry. She is a junior at Camp Point Central High School. She is an active member in her local 4-H club as well as secretary for the Camp Point Central FFA. She grew up raising and showing cattle with her family and loves spending time in the barn with the newborn calves. She plans to attend John Wood Community College and then go on to the University of Illinois to become an early education teacher.

Shaffer, 17, is a son of Curtis and Shannon Shaffer. He is a senior at Unity High School. He is an active member of the Unity FFA Chapter as well as the Ursa Willing Workers 4-H group. He loves working with and showing cattle, as well as participating in livestock judging events. Outside of school, he spends most of his time working at the farm and home or helping with the family businesses. After graduation, He plans to pursue a degree in ag business and ag science at a junior college and plans to be a part of the collegiate livestock judging team.
