DAILY DIRT: 102 children and 12 wives later, Ugandan says enough is enough
Daily Dirt for Monday, Feb. 6, 2023
More than 100 kids? Holy cow. Holy cow. Ho-o-o-o-ly cow … Welcome to today’s three thoughts that make up Vol. 520 of The Daily Dirt.
1. Remember the name Musa Hasahya Kasera. Some day, he’ll be the answer to a trivia question.
Kasera is a 68-year-old Ugandan villager, who like many, is struggling to provide for his family. Kasera’s family, however, is a bit bigger than most. As you’ll soon discover, that is quite an understatement.
Kasera has so many children he cannot even remember most of their names. He has fathered 102 children with 12 wives. He also has 578 grandchildren.
Fortunately, the unemployed Kasera now feels his family is big enough.
“At first it was a joke, but now this has its problems,” Kasera told global news agency AFP.com. “With my health failing and merely two acres of land for such a huge family, two of my wives left because I could not afford the basics like food, education and clothing.”
Kasera, who lives in a remote area of eastern Uganda, says his wives now take birth control to control further expansion of the Kasera family.
Kasera’s 102 children range in age from 10 to 50. His youngest wife is 35.
In case you were wondering, polygamy is not a crime in Uganda.
2. The best one-hit wonders from the 1980s?
Gold medal: “Come On Eileen,” Dexys Midnight Runners (1982). A Dexys reunion album is planned for sometime later this year.
Silver medal: “Walking On Sunshine,” Katrina and the Waves (1983). Lead singer was named Katrina Leskanich of Cambridge, England.
Bronze medal: “Take On Me,” by A-ha (1985). The lead singer was a Norwegian named Morton Harket.
3. The Great Plate Debate Update for West-Central Illinois and Northeast Missouri:
Gold medal: BATLADY. I nominate Jennifer Aniston to play “Batlady,” the wife of Batman in the next film about the caped crusader?
Silver medal: STARVED. When I’m hungry, my first thought tends to be … “cheeseburger.”
Bronze medal:4 CASTR. I wonder who has a higher accuracy rate, a TV weather forecaster or a Las Vegas oddsmaker?
This week’s honorable mention: 1 ROOTS, LOOS, I SEEU 5, RUN R 3.
Steve Thought O’ The Day — It’s hard to believe it’s been more than 40 years since we first heard “Come On Eileen” on the radio.
