Two in Hancock County Jail after meth-related arrest during traffic stop
An Iowa man and an Illinois woman are in the Hancock County Jail after a methamphetamine-related arrests resulting from a traffic stop in Hancock County.
A deputy with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department made a traffic stop at 11:20 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10 on a 1999 gold Oldsmobile on Illinois 96 at the Adams County line for a speeding violation.
The driver, Anthony L. Baker, 52, of West Burlington, Iowa was found to have a revoked driver’s license and a warrant for his arrest in Henderson County. The passenger, Shasta D. Schenk, 41, of Quincy originally provided a false name to the deputy. Schenk was found to have warrants for her arrest in Adams County and a non-extraditable warrant in Mohave County, Ariz.
A sheriff’s office canine had alerted on the vehicle. The subsequent search of the vehicle yielded a hypodermic syringe with suspected methamphetamine inside it, and a digital scale with suspected methamphetamine on it.
Baker and Schenk were arrested and transported to the Hancock County Jail.
Baker was charged with driving while license revoked, expired registration, obstructing justice and the Henderson County warrant. Schenk was charged with possession of methamphetamine (less than 5 grams), possession of hypodermic syringes, possession of drug paraphernalia, obstructing justice and the Adams County warrant.
