Hannibal Regional Airport to see upgrades
by Jim Dewey
Hannibal Regional Airport will be getting an upgrade soon.
During Tuesday’s meeting, the Hannibal City Council approved applying for a MoDOT Aviation Grant that will result in replacement of runway lights, Precision Approach Path Indicators (PAPIs) and Runway End Identifier Lights (REILs). The current runway lights “are out of compliance due to their height,” according to Andrew Dorian, Director of Central Services for the city of Hannibal.
In a written message to council, Dorian said the PAPI and REIL lights are at the end of their “Useful Life and are suffering consistent failures.” The city’s aviation engineering firm, Jviation, says the total cost of replacement of the lights is $690,500. The city would be responsible for 10 percent with the MoDOT grant funding the rest.
In other action council members approved a resolution authorizing Mayor James Hark to execute a 3-year city manager agreement between the city and current city manager Lisa C. Peck.
Council also gave second and final reading to ordinances creating a new P-1 Parks and Recreation Zoning District and changing property at 500 Bridge Street from B-1 Historic District to the new P-1 District.
