United Way of Adams County seeks nominations for Joe Bonansinga Community Service Award

QUINCY — The Joe Bonansinga “Mr. Quincy” Community Service Award, named after its first recipient in 1998, is presented annually by United Way of Adams County and the Rotary Club of Quincy to an individual who exemplifies the highest standards of community service. The award will be presented at the Rotary Club meeting on Tuesday, May 9.

This award honors exceptional community leaders who demonstrate:

• Service leadership by example
• Energetic and motivating enthusiasm
• Impactful community service
• Perseverance and commitment longevity
• Unselfish devotion and joy in endeavors that benefit the needs of others

Bonansinga was the first chairman to lead a United Way of Adams County campaign that exceeded the $1 million mark during the 1997 annual campaign. Near the close of the campaign, he inspired campaign volunteers to reach the goal saying, “Anything less is not acceptable for this community.”

In a press release, Nancy Bluhm, executive director of United Way of Adams County, said, “We want to find and honor those individuals who step up year after year to make our community a better place. It’s important that we carry on the rich tradition set forth by Mr. Bonansinga and showcase a community member deserving of his namesake.”

Area civic and business leaders are encouraged to nominate someone whose service to the community makes them an outstanding volunteer leader. You also may stop by the United Way of Adams County office located at 936 Broadway, Suite F, in downtown Quincy for a nomination form.

The deadline for first round nominations is Wednesday, March 29. The Joe Bonansinga Community Service Award recipient will be announced at the Tuesday, May 9, Rotary Club meeting.
