Quincy Symphony Chorus to perform ‘Pops of Color’ Saturday at Salem Church
QUINCY — A palette of colorful songs is featured at the Quincy Symphony Chorus spring pops concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 4, at Salem Church, Ninth and State.
The Pops of Color concert includes “Blue Skies” by Irving Berlin, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” by Elton John, “The Pink Panther” by Henry Mancini, “Blackbird” by John Lennon and many other hits.
The chorus, under the direction of Phyllis Robertson, is a regional ensemble with singers coming together weekly for the fellowship and the enjoyment of making music. This all-volunteer group performs two concerts each season and often joins the Quincy Symphony Orchestra for performances. Auditions are held throughout the year.
Tickets for “Pops of Color” will be available at the door or in advance at Quincy County Market, Hy-Vee and Sturhahn Jewelers. The cost is $18 for adults and $15 for seniors. Children 18 and under are admitted free to all QSO concerts.
The performance is made possible in part by concert sponsor Royal Printing, music sponsor Klingner and Associates, media sponsor WTAD-STARadio and grants from the Marion Gardner Jackson Charitable Trust, the Tracy Family Foundation, the Stillwell Foundation, the Katherine Broemmel Endowment for the Arts through the Community Foundation, and the Illinois Arts Council Agency, a state agency. The 75th anniversary season sponsors are Blessing Health System and Knapheide Manufacturing Company.
A $250 early bird drawing for the QSOA fundraising raffle will be held at the end of intermission. Raffle tickets are $10 each or 12 for $100 and are available from any chorus, orchestra, Encore! or board member. The $1,000 grand prize drawing will be held at the Quincy Symphony’s Orchestra’s “Pines of Rome” finale concert on April 22. The winner need not be present at the drawing. Sponsored by Homebank, the annual raffle supports the many programs of the Quincy Symphony Orchestra Association.
