Quincy Public Library expands resources for seniors
QUINCY — Quincy Public Library is expanding its senior services.
The library has openings in its home delivery program, which is open to any Quincy resident who can’t visit the library due to a disability. The library will deliver books, books on CD, DVDs and CDs to homes and senior care facilities. Patrons can request specific titles or tell the library their preferences. Library staff will make selections for them.
“This program is a lifeline for so many Quincy residents,” said Bobbi Mock, collection and delivery services manager. “It keeps them connected when they can’t come to the library.”
The library also has expanded its collection to include four Reminisce Kits targeted at adults with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
“One of our kits is a 1950s kit that includes a slinky, paper dolls, baseball cards, music of the time and photos,” Mock said. “These objects and photos can be memory aids to remember their past.”
Other kits are a handyman kit, a homemakers kit and a 1960s kit. The library also offers books that include vibrant pictures to provide a sensory experience for people struggling with dementia.
The library also has added to its collection several hi-lo books targeted at adults with lower reading levels.
All of these programs are free to library cardholders. Anyone who lives in Quincy’s city limits is eligible for a library card. The library offers nonresidents cards for a small annual fee each year for those who live outside residency requirements. For more information, call 217-223-1309.
