QUINCY — To celebrate Women’s History Month, Quincy University is hosting a special event called Making History Happen in the QU Hall of Fame Room, 20th and Oak, on Wednesday, March 22.

The event features a panel of accomplished women in a variety of career fields who will share their stories and challenges. The panel guests will invite questions and answers with attendees. The event opens at 6 p.m. with a meet-and-greet. The panel discussion begins at 6:30 p.m.

During Women’s History Month, QU is the host of a variety of student events to honor the contributions of women in the region and throughout the history of the nation. QU invited faculty, staff and alumni to submit nominations for women deserving recognition. Those are available at https://www.quincy.edu/honoring-womens-contributions/.

The QU communications degree program through QUTV produced a series of “A Salute to Women’s History Month” videos featuring students and staff honoring women in their lives. Those videos are posted throughout March on QU’s Instagram account.

This academic year marks the 100th anniversary of the admission of women to Quincy College. In 1922, Sr. Agnella Haag of the Sisters of the Most Precious Blood was the first woman to come to Quincy College. The first laywomen were admitted in 1932. Clare Louise Tenk and Eileen Gibbons both graduated with honors in 1935.
