Grand opening for Wahlburgers restaurant in HyVee on Broadway set for April 18

QUINCY — The HyVee grocery store at 3700 Broadway will be adding a Wahlburgers restaurant next month.

District Store Director Tad Gallaher said the grand opening is set for April 18 as the store is being remodeled. It will be the fifth HyVee in Illinois to have a Wahlburgers, with the others in Bloomington, Peoria, Peru and Springfield.

Wahlburgers is a casual dining restaurant and bar chain owned by chef Paul Wahlberg and his brothers, actors Donnie Wahlberg and Mark Wahlberg. The first restaurant was launched in 2011. Wahlburgers now has 90 locations in 24 states, as well as Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The chain also was the subject of the television series “Wahlburgers,” which debuted on A&E in 2014 and aired for five years.

Supermarket News reported in March 2020 that HyVee aimed to discontinue its Market Grille full-service restaurant concept and convert to the Wahlburgers restaurants. However, Gallaher said the Market Grille will remain at the Broadway HyVee location, as will its Chinese food offerings.

“Nothing changes,” Gallaher said. “We’re just adding to it. Everybody still can come up and order whatever they want out of the hot case or off the menu and go sit down to eat. At the same time, we’re going to have the Wahlburgers menu at the same place.”

Gallaher said a Wahlburgers restaurant also will be added “down the road” to the HyVee store at 1400 Harrison.

Gallaher said Wahlburgers “claim to fame” is its fresh Angus brisket, chuck and short rib blend of meat in its hamburger patties.

“They have several different unique hamburgers that we’ll be offering,” he said. “And they’ve got the best tater tots in the world.”

Wahlburgers restaurants also serve made-from-scratch recipes, homestyle dishes, fish, chicken and vegetarian options. It also has a full bar, including specialty drinks like adult frappes and floats.
